Everyone remembers the ball unintentionally sent by Novak Djokovic down a linesman’s throat during the 2020 US Open. When a player expresses his frustration with a dangerous gesture, it’s hard not to rethink to this defining scene in the recent history of tennis.
While leading two sets at zero and 4-3 in the third set this Tuesday in the quarter-finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas got angry after a forehand winner by Jiri Lehecka. He came very close to throwing a ball at a ball boy who was very scared given his reaction.
Tsitsipas eventually won in three sets but did not go that far from disqualification.
